I was new to the whole concept of using coconut milk, oil, etc., after I read Coconut Cures. I thought this milk was fine, and was happy to use it, until I tried Thai Kitchen brand – and now I will never go back!

I bought a whole case of coconut milks so that I could refrigerate it and then scoop out the cream and whip it so it would be like a vegan whipped cream. Well, when I scooped this one out, and tried to whip it I was extremely disappointed! It turned into a liquid and wouldn’t whip up at all! And not only that, but there is no “USDA organic” label on the cans. It says “natural” but I’m really not convinced. I think that label most of the time is a gimmick anyway. I think I’m going to just get mine at Whole Foods next time. I know that kind was truly organic and it whipped.

A very good quality, natural coconut milk with no additives. I bought a case of this online after trying the coconut milk available at the supermarket in my new home town – pretty dire (Thai Kitchen). This is just what is says on the tin: coconut milk, no additives, does what it should: separates into liquid and hard coconut milk/fat in the can when cold. Perfect for Thai green curry. No artificial taste or texture (the other milk tasted like a thin paste made from flour and water). Five stars. Gonna buy another dozen cans soon…

My family drinks a lot of coconut milk (about a can a day) and this is one of the best brands available. I also recommend Chaokoh but it isn’t available directly from Amazon yet and is probably better to just purchase locally. This Natural Value Coconut Milk is one of the few that has no fillers or preservatives though which means it is perfect for making healthy coconut yogurt with the Salton YM9 1-Quart Yogurt Maker. If you haven’t tried making coconut yogurt yet I highly recommend it!

A lot of people are still under the impression that Coconut milk is bad for you. There was some faulty research done years ago on hydrogenated coconut oil which is mostly to blame for this. If you are one of those people that are still convinced coconut is bad I highly recommend reading The Good Fat Cookbook.

Gives sauces, stews, soups, etc. intense flavor of FRESH COCONUT. Unlike other coconut milk, it’s more homogenized so easier to use, i.e. not clumping into thick fat with surrounding liquid. Most brands give welcome creaminess, but none have this marvelous, intense FRESH COCONUT flavor. Did I remember to say FRESH COCONUT flavor?
