The mind of the person is unpeaceful even after collecting materials of happiness and facility. There is loss of mental peace due to tension and desponding. The body and the mind is in grip of ailments. Healthy body and healthy mind is in grip of ailments. Healthy body and healthy mind is absolutely essential for us. The body is not perceived due to tubby and there is no perceiving of the mind due to subtle. There is propelling of sense by the mind. The senses seize the subjects and the mind collects the same. Plan remembrance, fretfulness, debate and discussion are common functions of the mind. There is necessity of control on the mind for mental health. Whenever mind feels uneasy, restless, disturbed, agitated, tense, and heavy or strained, we are said to be in stress, on the other hand "Whenever our mind is feeling cheerful, light easy, calm, and quiet, we are said to be in a relaxed state, opposite to that of stress.
Reactions to stress are manifold. No one situation is stressful to all the people all the time. Some of the factors that can produce stress are children or the lack of them, the boss or the subordinate, the traffic, the telephone or the lack of it, overwork or not enough to do, too much money or too little of it, overwork or not enough routine job, lack of authority and apprehensions about the future.
Thus Ayurveda considered a balance state of mana, atman and buddhi to getting total health. If one has not the balance state of these two, besides the balance of all other factor, can't having total health. He may be a diseased person of mental disorders like "stress". In Ayurveda, stress has been laid on the psychosomatic approach in the management of various mental disorders. Charaka describes that life denotes the samyoga (annexation) of sharira (physical body) indriya (conative and cognitive organs), satva (mind) and atman (soul). Further he adds that sharira is influenced be manas and likewise manas by sharira. Similarly, physical and mental disorders may interchangeable. All these highlight the holistic approach of Ayurveda.
